How to clean windows

Natural light is one of the things that bring more life to our home and help make our house look beautiful, but for this it is also necessary that our windows are clean and without marks. On many occasions this is not an easy task, since the windows get dirty very quickly, especially the windows and glass doors that are used to move from one room to another.

In the same way, it is necessary that we use glass cleaning products or homemade solutions that help us achieve a good result and that it is more durable. If you don’t know what to do to get impeccable windows , don’t miss this article on how to clean windows.

Steps to follow:

Step: 1

Before proceeding to clean the windows, we must clean the frame because if we do it at the end, we can dirty the crystals again, thus generating double work. Depending on the type of material in which these frames are made, we will proceed to clean them in one way or another:

Thus, if the frames are made of aluminum , we must clean them with a solution of hot water and detergent.

If they are made of wood , we can use a soft cloth dipped in equal parts in skimmed milk and cold water, or in cold tea for varnished wood.

Step: 2

To clean the windows, we can use specific window cleaning products that we will find in any store or supermarket, but we can also prepare a homemade solution ourselves.

To make our own window cleaner, all we have to do is mix 1 part white vinegar to 4 parts water in a container or bucket and stir until both products are integrated. It is best to put this preparation in a spray bottle and spray it on the glass so that the disinfectant properties of the vinegar penetrate the glass and clean it completely.

Step: 3

To be able to clean the windows we will need two buckets because we will use one to clean (put the sponge in and soak it) and the other to rinse. We must change the water frequently, especially the second, to achieve good results. In the event that we use a sprayer, we will only need to have a bucket to rinse the sponge since we will already be applying the product directly to the crystals.

To dry the crystals, it is recommended to use clean newspaper or a soft cloth. Never rub dirty windows with a dry cloth as you will scratch the glass due to the dirt.

Step: 4

In the event that the windows are very dirty , we will have to use a porous sponge and two buckets, as this will be the way that we will be able to catch the dirt embedded in the crystals and rinse it with clean water. It is also recommended that you clean from top to bottom to prevent water from dripping.

On the market there are some cloths that are made with microfiber and that are indicated for dry cleaning the glass, so you can opt for this material to clean the windows and make them look like new.

Step: 5

Now we are going to give you some extra tricks so that you can clean the windows and make them perfect. One of the most effective to prevent you from dirtying the rest of the house when you are cleaning is to place a towel on the shelf that will absorb the water that you use and, therefore, prevent it from falling on the floor.

Another little trick that you can follow is to remove the deepest and most difficult stains with the help of alcohol . This product applied to a cloth will help you deal with the most persistent marks, getting them completely removed. To do this, you must pour alcohol on a cloth and rub the crystals, with another clean cloth dipped in water you can clean the stain. A piece of newspaper will help you dry it and the result is impeccable.

Step: 6

Now we are going to attack the cleaning of the crystals from the outside , one of the most difficult parts to get working. If you live in a house with a terrace or garden, you can clean them by directly applying the pressurized water that will come out of the hose, you will be able to remove any remaining dirt and make the crystals perfect. Of course: you must rinse with water at low pressure to achieve a thorough result.

But if you live in an apartment, it is best to opt for a cleaning mop that has cloths that can be changed, pass it from top to bottom to remove any dirt that may be embedded. The corners are difficult areas to clean, so a trick is to do it with a toothbrush that will help you reach these areas perfectly.

A piece of advice in this regard : clean the interior windows with horizontal movements (from right to left, for example) and the exterior ones vertically (from top to bottom). The reason is that it will help you discover if there is any glass that you have not managed to clean well and, quickly, you will be able to see what they are: if they are striped, they are the ones on the outside and if they are in horizontal lines, they are the ones on the inside.

Tips

Use soft cloths or rags to avoid scratching the crystals.
