This checks list outlines the key points that your installer needs to complete prior to them leaving your premises once the solar panels have been installed and connected to your system.
Your Commissioning and MCS Certificate
A Commissioning Certificate needs to be provided by the installer to prove that the solar panel system has been tested and is functioning correctly. In addition, an MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) certificate must be provided; this MCS certification includes details on the requirements of the solar panel installation, and also of the solar panel equipment that has been used for the installation. The MCS certification also needs to be provided so that the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) can be registered for.
Generation and Export Meter Readings
This should include the generation meter reading and the export meter reading for that day, to act as a baseline for your future monitoring and for any future problems with regards to warranty or billing.
Inverter Walkthrough
A 5 minute training session is required to demonstrate use of the inverter display and show what a fault code looks like and explain the procedure to switch back on after a power cut. DNO Notification Confirmation
For most domestic solar systems, the solar panel installer will notify the Distribution Network Operator (DNO) of the installation, which will be accepted under G98 or G99 conditions. Written confirmation of the submission and acceptability of the notification should be requested from the installer.
Monitoring App Setup
Most inverter systems are set up with a Smartphone app or web portal that the solar panel installer can set up for you before he leaves. They can then show you how to use the app to check how much power your solar panels are generating on a daily basis.
Keep Everything Together
This is why you should keep all the handover documents (and other relevant documents and readings) in a folder. This will contain the relevant information in case of any problems with your solar panel system, for any future remortgaging of your property, and also in case you decide to switch to another energy supplier in the future.
Handover documents to store in one folder – that’s been a job well done!
