Gym Sled Exercises for Strength and Conditioning

Gym Sleds are without a doubt one of the most versatile training tools in almost any gym. Use Gym Sleds to improve strength and complete great conditioning work.

Forward Push

Start off with a very light load on the sled. Grab hold of the upright handles on it and take off in a low, angled position to work your quads and glutes. Try to cover 20-30m in this exercise.

Backward Drag

Attach a harness or strap to your body and walk backwards using short steps. This version of the sled pull is excellent for isolating the quads and does not put any strain on your spine. It is an ideal exercise for beginners as well as for recovery work.

Chest-Press Pull

Face the sled with your straps held at about chest height, pull the sled toward yourself in a rowing motion. This movement works your upper back and biceps. Do three sets of 15m.

Lateral Shuffle Drag

Set up the strap on the side of the sled and work at a 90° angle to it. Keep your hips low and move laterally in a shuffling action to work your hip abductors.

Sprint Acceleration

Load to approximately 10-15% of your body weight and perform short sprints over 15m or so, in order to build explosive leg power. This type of training is excellent as it is without the risk of serious injury found when performing unresisted sprints.
